'America thinks the Royal Family should have done more to protect Meghan'

CNN's royal commentator Victoria Arbiter speaks about the US perspective of the Royal Family. Arbiter tells Yahoo UK's 'The Royal Box:' "Overall Americans, I’m generalising a little bit, but they love the Royal Family. "They’ve always admired the Queen, the love affair truly started with Diana. "With Meghan in there, they’re very proud, it’s one of their own behind palace walls. There is a sense however, they feel that the Royal Family hasn’t done enough to protect Meghan and that is a theme that is developing." Meghan Markle has been subjected to a wave of negative press, including unfounded rumours about her 'difficult' behaviour and a so-called 'rift' with her sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge. Meghan's estranged family, including father Thomas Markle, have also revealed personal details about their relationship and have criticised her on social media and during TV interviews. Arbiter adds: "They [Americans] find it hard to understand the Royal Family’s philosophy of ‘we don’t say anything because all that does is perpetuate the story.’ "There’s a sense there [in the US] that she’s [Meghan] been under attack and that someone should have stood up to defend her. "But the thing is, let’s say Prince Charles did come out and say something, it would fuel the story more and more and more."
