Amazon Signs Licensing Deal With India’s T-Series
Amazon India has announced a long-term content licensing partnership with T-Series for upcoming film releases.
The exclusive deal follows a spree of licensing agreements with Indian studios ahead of the imminent launch of its Prime Video streaming service in the country. Others include pacts with Vishesh Films and Dharma Production.
T-Series is one of India’s largest music labels and have also been in the film production business for decades. It has had seven releases this year of which “Airlift” was a major success, grossing $34 million worldwide. The studio has 17 films in various states of production. These will stream on Prime after their theatrical releases and prior to television premieres. T
itles include Anubhav Sinha’s “Tum Bin 2,” Sunhil Sippy’s “Noor” starring Sonakshi Sinha, Raja Menon’s “Chef” starring Saif Ali Khan, Hansal Mehta’s “Simran” starring Kangana Ranaut, and Saket Chaudhary’s “Hindi Medium” starring Irrfan Khan.
“Subscription services are being well received by the consumers and hold tremendous future potential in India,” said Bhushan Kumar, chairman and MD of T-Series.
