  • Nintendo Switch consoles are back in stock after being sold out for most of 2020 due to shortage issues caused by the pandemic.

  • Holiday shoppers can get new Switch consoles now, as Nintendo tells the press that they are working on shipping new units to retailers through the end of the year.

  • Animal Crossing fans can get their hands on a special edition console right now that's available on Amazon.

They're finally back! Nintendo Switch consoles have been one of the most elusive items to find during the novel coronavirus pandemic (even more so than cleaning supplies!). But manufacturers have restocked the immensely popular gaming system at last, and if we've learned anything about the last few months, it's that these consoles will probably sell out again real soon.

The gamers at Gamespot report that Nintendo has announced that more gaming systems are "on the way" for the holiday season — but it's unclear how many more units will be shipped before December arrives. Many fans are taking the opportunity to shop early since nearly all electronic superstores seem to have the Nintendo Switch in stock right now. While resellers have been able to sell consoles to online shoppers at a higher markup over the summer, the new consoles are being sold for their recommended MSRP, $299.99.

If a loved one can't stop talking about Animal Crossing (or if you can't stop thinking about it yourself!), listen up — one of the Nintendo Switch models currently on the market is a themed special edition gaming system, and it's bound to be a collector's item for diehard Animal Crossing fans. The special edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch is available right now on Amazon and features a special color theme and unique accessories, making it the ultimate holiday gift for the gamer in your life.

We'll admit — it seems like quantities are selling out fast, so if by the time you head to your favorite retailer's website and the Switch is sold out, try checking your local stores. Shops like GameStop and Best Buy will allow you to check availability in local stores, and you can arrange for curbside pick up if they have a unit in stock. Use the product locator tool at any of these locators to find a system right now:

While it's not the same exact unit, those who are on the hunt for a Nintendo Switch system can also consider what's called the Nintendo Switch Lite. At $199, it's vastly more affordable for budget shoppers — but unlike the traditional Switch, it doesn't connect to a television in the home. It allows users to play their favorite games anywhere, though, so it still makes for a great gift. Check out the best games of the year below to round out your holiday shopping!
