"I Am Not Madame Bovary" wins the Golden Shell

26 Sep - Following its success at the Toronto International Film Festival, Feng Xiaogang's upcoming movie "I Am Madame Bovary" has won yet more awards, this time at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

As reported on CRI News, the movie recently won both the Golden Shell award for Best Film, and the Silver Shell for Best Actress for Fan Bingbing, who shed her glamorous look to play a scorned village woman.

"I am very happy," said Fan, who attended the event alongside Feng. "It really feels like being in a dream."

The actress, who celebrated her 35th birthday on 16 September, stated that she didn't expect her birthday wish to come true.

"As a Chinese actress, I am very proud and happy to be recognised at the San Sebastian Film Festival," she added.

While Feng's movie did win the big prize, the filmmaker himself lost the Best Director award to Korean director, Hong Sang-soo ("Yourself and Yours").

The movie, which attracted attention with its round screen frame on a normal rectangular scene, previously won the FIPRESCI prize in Toronto.
