Alien: Covenant Image Teases New Female Lead

Here’s our first look at ‘Alien: Covenant’… and its new lead character.

A revealing new image has emerged from the set of ‘Alien: Covenant’ which depicts Katherine Waterston in her role as Daniels – the new female lead. But while she certainly looks the part, can she walk the walk?

And will she really be as kick-ass as Ripley?

Appearing on the official Alien Facebook page, the behind-the-scenes image gives us a glimpse of Ridley Scott’s monitor on the set of ‘Alien: Covenant’… and it looks as though things have gone sideways already for the ill-fated crew.

“Nowhere to run,” reads the caption. “‪#‎AlienCovenant ‪#‎Daniels”.

Presumably, we catch up with Daniels aboard the ill-fated space craft, Covenant… and from the looks of things, their mission hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. There are loose wires hanging from the ceiling while Daniels crouches on the ground with what looks like some kind of gun slung between her legs.

And what’s happening down the corridor?

Clearly, director Ridley Scott is attempting to channel the original ‘Alien’ here… and it seems to be working. Katherine Waterston has a very ‘Ripley’ vibe about her, and the stark corridors are reminiscent of the Nostromo.

But will ‘Alien: Covenant’ live up to its predecessors?

‘Alien: Covenant’ follows on from ‘Prometheus’ – the 2012 sci-fi movie by Ridley Scott which definitely, categorically wasn’t an ‘Alien’ prequel right up until the point it became an ‘Alien’ prequel.

But while ‘Alien: Covenant’ will likely answer some of the franchise’s bigger question, it looks as though it’s also going back to its roots. After all, this new set image is clearly trying to recapture what made ‘Alien’ so great in the first place.

Will it come close to being as good as the original?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but it’s off to a promising start.

‘Alien: Covenant’ heads to cinemas on 4 August 2017.
