Alia Bhatt sings for A. R. Rahman

20 Jan – Young actress Alia Bhatt may have only one movie in her resume so far, but the 20-year-old has been given the huge task of acting and singing in an upcoming film "Highway".

Indian Express reported that Alia is making her singing debut in the film with a song titled "Sooha Saha", which is composed by Oscar-winning music composer A. R. Rahman. The song is a lullaby that her character, a gypsy, sings as she travels with the male lead played by Randeep Honda in the road film.

"I am just two films old when it comes to acting and it's my debut as a singer with 'Highway'. For me both are difficult," Alia said.

When asked how she felt about making her singing debut with a song composed by A. R. Rahman, the "Student Of The Year" actress said that she jumped at the idea.

"It was unreal. I am a bathroom singer but to have the opportunity to sing a song composed by Rahman sir was unbelievable... This film is so close to my heart not just for acting but for singing too now!"

Despite her nervousness, "Highway" director Imtiaz Ali and A. R. Rahman have nothing but praise for the actress' talent. The music maestro even remarked that if she practiced singing for two years, she could record an album.

"Highway" is set for worldwide release by UTV Motion Pictures on 21 February 2014.
