Alexandre Desplat to score Valerian after Star Wars: Rogue One exit
Composer Alexandre Desplat has jumped (space) ship from one sci-fi franchise to another, leaving behind LucasFilm’s ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ for upcoming sci-fi 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’.
The eight-time Oscar-nominee who finally won in 2015 for 'The Grand Budapest Hotel’ didn’t take long to find a new project after his sudden departure from the 'Star Wars’ spin-off.

Welcoming Desplat to the team of the comic book adaptation, director Luc Beeson said on Instagram his new colleague has found “a new home in 'The City of a Thousand Planets’. Welcome on board of 'Valerian’ maestro!!!”
Based on the French comic series 'Valérian and Laureline’, the film stars Dan DeHaan as the former and Cara Delevingne as the latter. Clive Owen, John Goodman, Ethan Hawke, Rihanna and Rutger Hauer also star.
Last week, The Hollywood Reporter dished the dirt on Desplat’s unexpected departure, revealing that 'Inside Out’ and 'Star Trek Beyond’ composer Michael Giacchino would be filling in.
There has been no official word on the reason for his departure, but THR believes it is to do with extensive reshoots for the film which took place over the summer.
Desplat’s long and illustrious career began in his native France before he made the move to Hollywood, where he scored 'The King’s Speech’, 'Godzilla’ and both parts of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’, among many others.
'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ is set for release on 21 July 2017.
