Alex To shares the inspiration behind new single

24 Oct – Hong Kong singer Alex To recently revealed that he penned the new single, "Goodbye Louis" himself to commemorate a good friend who has passed away.

As reported on Mingpao, the singer, who recently released the new song featuring rapper Detroit Diamond, shared that the "Louis" in question was a former member of the Hong Kong cycling team that he met 20 or 30 years ago.

Said Alex, the two of them met during an important time in their lives and shared a lot of things together. However "Louis" passed away after getting involved in an accident while riding his bicycle.

"The song is about impermanence. Sooner or later, each one of us will encounter the death of our loved ones and friends. Louis is an ordinary name. Louis can represent every precious old friend in our lives," he said.

Alex said that he was on his tour in Toronto when he heard the sad news, and thought that he should write a song about it.

He also contacted rapper and cancer fighter Detroit Diamond to help him with the rap part of the song. Said, Alex, even though the rapper was seriously ill during the filming of the music video, he still showed enthusiasm and confidence in front of the camera.

Sadly, Detroit Diamond passed away before he could see the end result of his hard work.

Alex also dedicated the song to the rapper. In his Instagram post, he shared Detroit Diamond's lyrics which partly read, "As the sun sets slowly, I could feel you leaving. I think of you till I no longer breathe knowing that I need you. God please give me strength. I hope you hear me through this music, until we meet again."
