Aldi has relaunched its halloumi fries and cheese lovers around the country are rejoicing.

Enthusiasm for the fries reached fever pitch in May 2018 when they were released for the first time. This time the fries will be £2.29 rather than last year’s price, £1.99.

The supermarket noticed how popular the cheesy bites were in Nando’s and jumped on the chance to stock them last year.

With the leading dairy body recently saying that eating cheese will make you “happier”, there’s really no reason not to stock up.

In a short space of time last year, they became an Aldi must-have. Within two months of launching them, Aldi limited shoppers to 2 boxes each, after a national shortage.

There’s a catch, though. The halloumi cheese with its seasoned, crispy coating is only available from spring until summer. If last year’s shortages are anything to go by, you better act quickly to get these seasonal treats.

The fries are already available and Twitter is awash with memories of last summer, barbecues and the time that England almost brought it home.

One tweet said: “Halloumi fries for tea. This is not a drill. Aldi, you have my heart forever.”

Another user offered up some culinary advice: “Halloumi fries from Aldi are something else. Dip them in tomato and balsamic glaze and thank me later.”

Aldi says: “Inspired by a similar offering from popular Portuguese chicken eatery, Nando’s; Aldi’s Specially Selected Haloumi Fries are made with scrumptiously soft – and salty – halloumi cheese from Cyprus and a lightly seasoned crispy coating making them the perfect side or snack for sharing.”

Sharing you say, Aldi? We’ll see about that.
