21 Aug – Alden Richards has recently been appointed the Ambassador of USAID Philippines' #EndTB campaign.
As reported on GMA News, the Kapuso star who spoke about his appointment recently, stated that he is honoured and excited for the new role, and hopes that he will be able to contribute more to the public health advocacy.
"I have always been promoting a healthy lifestyle and I am embracing this challenge to promote health seeking behaviour for tuberculosis especially in the midst of the pandemic," he said.
According to Michelle Lang-Alli, the Office of Health Director of USAID Philippines, "Campaigns by celebrities like Alden can exponentially increase public awareness and provide accurate information about a disease, whether COVID-19 or TB."
"With disruptions in the provision of health services due to COVID-19, we needed to reinforce our campaign for TB elimination," she added.
Aiming to end the global TB pandemic, the #TBFree PH campaign supports to the Department of Health's (DOH) National TB Control Program (NTP) in finding and treating Filipinos with tuberculosis especially in the times of COVID-19.
It is noted that the Philippines is one of the 30 high TB-burdened countries listed by the WHO accounting for most of the TB cases in the world.
