Alan Cumming to join new drama series 'Dr. Death'

Alan Cumming is set to join "Dr. Death," a new drama series from CBS reports Deadline.

The series is based on the upcoming book of the same name by James Patterson, who will also feature as one of the show's executive producers.

"Dr. Death" will tell the story of a former CIA operative, to be played by Cumming, who since leaving has built a "normal" life as a talented professor and writer.

However he is drawn back into old life when the NYPD call on him for help to stop a serial killer.

Commenting on the news Patterson said, "It's great to imagine Alan in the role - there aren't many stars who can convincingly play drama and comedy with effortless wit, not to mention a musical savant and crime-solving genius."

Cumming is well known for his role as Eli Gold on "The Good Wife" for which he earned three Emmy nominations. The actor will next be seen in tennis biopic "Battle Of The Sexes".
