As people around the U.S are rapidly being vaccinated for COVID-19, we're seeing a glimmer of hope for the travel industry to recover from one of its roughest years yet. Airbnb is putting its best foot forward with its new Summer of Responsible Travel initiatives, aimed at ensuring its guests can enjoy a safe summer vacation this year.

The biggest restriction in the plan is the prohibition of one-day stays for the July 4th weekend. Meant to deter parties, the rule has some exceptions: Guests who have already booked this time and have a history of positive reviews on the platform will be allowed to keep their arrangements. Anyone without a history of positive views, however, won't be able to make a new booking. The platform also plans to roll out further restrictions on last-minute bookings as the holiday approaches.

Additionally, the company will be implementing a noise detection device, available to "superhosts" on the Airbnb network. These devices will help to identify excessive noise and potential parties. All hosts will, however, be required to notify potential clients if they choose to use this device in their rooms, in order to comply with the company's privacy policies. Neighbors will also be able to report issues (including parties) through Airbnb's neighborhood support system, which launched in 2019 and is getting upgrades, including additional languages.

With COVID-19 cases still rising in several locations throughout the U.S., Airbnb will also be keeping its safety COVID-19 practices in place: Hosts and guests must wear masks in common spaces and practice social distancing, and hosts have to stick to Airbnb's 5-step enchanted cleaning methods, introduced last year.
