Aiko Melendez files case against Zambales Vice Governor
14 May – Actress Aiko Melendez recently announced that she has filed a cyberlibel case against Zambales Vice Governor Angel Magsaysay-Cheng.
As reported on PEP, the 45-year-old actress, who appeared at the provincial prosecutor's office, filed the complaint following Cheng's allegation that she is the mistress of Subic Mayor Jay Khonghun and tagged her in the illegal drug trade.
Said Melendez's lawyer Carl Bonifacio Aletajan, "The video and post submitted as evidence shows a malicious imputation on my client's character. She is a mother of two, a woman and her feelings were hurt."
It is noted that Khonghun, who is in a relationship with Melendez, is running against Cheng in the 13 May elections. Khonghun was already separated from his wife when the two started dating.
Aletajan, who called Cheng's action as an "assassination of character", also stressed that they will continue to pursue the case until the other party is punished.
"This is a fight between Jay and Angel in politics. But what she did to me was personal and you have no evidence," Melendez was quoted saying.
