Ai-Ai delas Alas wins Best Actress in New York
21 Mar - Actress Ai-Ai delas Alas has been honoured with the Best Actress award at the recently concluded 7th Queens World Film Festival in New York.
As reported on InterAksyon, the actress defeated other worthy nominees including Germany's Karin Haczewsk and American actress Amy Redford - the latter daughter of Hollywood actor Robert Redford - to win the said award for her role as an aging prostitute in Louie Ignacio's "Area".
Sharing her happiness with the recognition, delas Alas, who couldn't attend the ceremony, shared on Instagram that she was surprised upon hearing the news as soon as she got up from her bed.
"[Boyfriend] Gerald [Sibayan] was dumbfounded when he saw me kneeling and weeping in gratitude," wrote delas Alas.
She expressed her gratitude to the Lord for the blessings, the production for the opportunity given to her, and dedicated the award to her fellow competitors.
She also thanked director Ignacio for his guidance and for representing her at the awards.
Although she has won multiple awards for her comedic characters, this is delas Alas' first accolade for a dramatic role.
