ABC Buys Laura Krafft Family Comedy

In a competitive situation, ABC has nabbed The Favorite, a single-camera multi-generational comedy from writer Laura Krafft, ABC Studios and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.

The Favorite centers on a woman who comes home for a visit to help her siblings with their aging parents and ends up moving in to care for them full time. A comedic examination of the tricky but ultimately rewarding relationship between adult children and their parents, one of the rarely discussed best parts of getting older.

Krafft executive produces with Kaplan and Dana Honor.

Krafft most recently worked on ABC Studios’ Fox comedy series Grandfathered, a co-production with 20th TV. Prior to that, she was a consulting producer on Comedy Central’s Another Period and FX’s The Comedians. She also wrote on Robin Williams’ CBS series The Crazy Ones and Larry Wilmore’s Showtime specials, developed The Jenny Slate Show for Comedy Central and was one of the original writers on The Colbert Report. She began her career in Chicago at the Second City and Improv Olympic theaters.

Krafft is represented by WME and attorney Lev Ginsburg.

At ABC, Kapital Entertainment has two other projects in development — the DJ Nash comedy Losing It and dramedy House of Moore, which has Felicity Huffman attached to star and executive produce. Additionally, the company has new ABC comedy series American Housewife and returning drama series Secrets & Lies. All projects are with ABC Studios.
