What would make the already pretty flipping moody X-Men movie ‘Logan’ even moodier? Taking out all the colour, that’s what.

And according to director James Mangold, that could well be the plan.

Asked by a fan to get right on converting the movie to monochrome on Twitter, he replied to the affirmative, saying simply: “Workin’ on it.”

Well, that sounds positive, and black and images were used plenty in the marketing of the movie, so there’s a precedent there.

If Mangold goes the black and white route, he will follow Australian director George Miller, after he converted ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ to some acclaim last year.

Either way, Mangold is winning.

So far, the movie, which finds Hugh Jackman in his last turn as Wolverine, is riding high within the critical community, with a 93% ‘fresh’ rating on reviews aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

Geoffrey Macnab in The Independent writes: “Logan is a Marvel movie with a bit of soul and some true grit. Presumed to be the final outing for Wolverine, it plays more like a late period John Wayne western than it does like a conventional superhero film.”

It’s out now across the UK.
