'90s Miami Meets Renaissance Italy Inside Gianni Versace's Former New York Townhouse

From ELLE DECOR

Looking for a summer share that's out of the ordinary? Have we found the place for you.

It may not have beach access, but an Upper East Side townhouse once owned by Gianni Versace is up for rent, and boy, is it lavish. According to 6sqft.com, Versace bought the 14,000-square-foot space in 1993, just two years before his murder outside his (also opulent) Miami home, Casa Casuarina, which is, coincidentally, also looking for a tenant.

Versace renovated the place from top-to-bottom, Italian style, and many of his changes remain untouched. Think: marble floors, painted ceilings, and chandeliers you can swing from. Other features of note? Gold embellished fireplaces, a sunken Jacuzzi tub, and a rooftop garden. Casual.

Swedish hedge fund manager Thomas Sandell bought the 17-room pad in 2005 and is now asking a cool $120,000 a month for the place beginning in August, the New York Observer reports.
