From Country Living

Earlier this week, we learnt about a family of nine adorable miniature Dachshunds looking for a new home after being abandoned by their previous owners.

Aptly named after Santa's reindeer, the six-week-old pups and their mother have been hopeful for new owners to visit them at the Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and District RSPCA centre, where they were dropped off last month.

Manager Julie Cockroft said: "We have to have one member of staff constantly allocated to these puppies as even the simplest of tasks – such as checking and cleaning their teeth - can take ages with nine wriggly, little puppies."

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolf need special care, as well as round-the-clock attention.

"They need a lot of care and, also, a lot of specialist things so if any members of the public are able to help by making donations or dropping off any useful items then that would be hugely helpful. We’re particularly looking for puppy food and toys to keep them entertained."

As the pups are still young, staff at the RSPCA want to move the puppies into their new home in early 2020, so that they have time to adjust to any changes.

Did the puppies find a new home?

RSPCA spokesperson, Amy Ockelford said: "Our staff and volunteers at RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & District have been completely overwhelmed by the level of interest in our adorable dachshund puppies. We've had more than 3,000 applications for the nine pups from all over the world!

"We're currently going through all of the applications so we'd like to ask prospective owners to be patient while we select the most suitable families for them. Unfortunately, we don't have enough dachshund puppies to go around – but we do have hundreds of dogs in our care who are looking for a new home so we'd encourage anyone who isn't successful on this occasion to consider offering one of our other rescue dogs a home for Christmas."

So it looks like, soon enough, all nine puppies will be safely settled into new, loving homes.

You can find out more information about adopting dogs on the RSPCA's website. There are also many other ways you can help support the dogs in need, such as by donations and volunteering.
