6 Need-to-Know Trends from Milan Fashion Week
Three cities down and on to Paris we go! After five days of shows and presentations in Milan it’s time to say arrivedecci — but first, a look at the trends that defined the week.
Milan has always felt a little stuck in a time warp and mainly because of their classic craftsmanship and the quality of the goods they produce but this time, I am talking about Milanese’s taste in music. The music at so many shows was a straight up throw back to the 80s, from The Cure “Friday I’m in love” at Alberta Ferretti, Pat Benatar’s “We are Young” at No.21, Tiffany’s “I think we’re alone now” at Attico, to Patsy Kensit’s “I’m not scared” at Blumarine, Milan has been all about the throw back rather than the future.
Meanwhile, the runway debut of hijab wearing model Halima Aden at Alberta Ferretti and Maxmara had everyone feeling optimistic and inspired, editors and buyers leaving the Prada show reminiscing of their teen room and 60s artwork while Dolce & Gabbana had us all wishing we were 21 yrs old and born the daughter or son of a rich actor or musician. But what of the trends we saw? Here is a recap of what we think everyone will be lusting after come August 2017.
Picture Perfect
Does every picture tell a story? In fashion’s case, yes it does and this fall, designers are taking us on a journey, again. Alberta Ferreti’s scene from Venice, Marco di Vincenzo’s starry nights and No.21’s Swavorski’s Florida beach scene inspires us to get away from it all.
Cape Crusader
The the ultra ornate and super rich silk and embroidery at Gucci to sleek grey cashmere cape coat at Maxmara, there is a cape for every occasion come fall.
Colorful Collar
Leave your classic black coat at the back of the wardrobe because color is in and a bright colorful fur trim collar is the key detail to have!
History of Art
Art as always played a big part in fashion but this season is blatant in its references in so many shows but notably Robert McGinis at Prada, Thomas De Falco at Tods, artist Coco Capitán made a huge impact on Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and Goga Ashkenazi looked to one of the greatest artist, Leonardo da Vinci.
