Marina Bay will be filled with celebratory events this new year’s eve (31 December), as organisers of the Marina Bay Countdown 2019 have planned a variety of activities to get the public in the mood for the new year.

While there are carnivals (Prudential Marina Bay Carnival at Bayfront Event Space), concerts (Let’s Celebrate 2019 and Esplanade Presents Come Together) and food fests (Food Truck Fest at Marina Bay Sands), arguably the most anticipated event is the fireworks and lighting display set against the city skyline to ring in the new year.

This is a great opportunity to get your first Instagram post of 2019, and here is a list of the best spots to get that picture-perfect fireworks shot:

1. One Fullerton

Here’s the ideal spot to get pics of the fireworks set against the iconic backdrop of Marina Bay Sands or the Singapore Flyer, with One Fullerton on the opposite side of the bay to those two landmarks. You can also try to get the Merlion statue into your fireworks photo. And with a host of top-notch bars along One Fullerton, you can have a toast to a more prosperous new year while enjoying the festivities. Not a bad idea at all.

2. The Helix

The pedestrian bridge linking Marina Centre to Marina South will be adorned with a spiral of lights during the night. With viewing pods extending out into the bay, you can get visually-stunning compositions at the bridge when coupled with the fireworks and lights over the bay. Be warned though: It will be extremely crowded, so go early to get a good spot.

3. Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza

Do you fancy watching the dazzling fireworks display while noshing on great food? If so, then head on down to the Food Truck Fest at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza, which will serve up a delicious line-up of modern local food. The view is pretty fantastic too, as it overlooks the skyscrapers of Singapore’s city skyline.

4. The Promontory

What’s a new year countdown celebration without a raucous concert? The “Let’s Celebrate 2019” concert at the Promontory will feature Mediacorp artistes as well as local acts like Taufik Batisah, Gentle Bones and Joanna Dong. Party the night away with the stars, but don’t forget to whip out your mobile phones when the fireworks display begins.

5. The Float@Marina Bay

The showpiece event for the new year’s eve celebrations is the Star Island Singapore Countdown Edition, a musical which combines pyrotechnics, lights, 3D sound and performance acts. And the spectator stand at The Float@Marina Bay is a prime spot from which to watch the fireworks with the city skyline in the background. Grab your tickets early for this unique performance.

Photographers can add the hashtags #marinabaysg and #mbsc2019 to their social media photo postings. More information can be found at the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown website.
