(This article contains major spoilers for the series finale of Marvel’s “WandaVision” on Disney+) Well, that sure was something. The Marvel series “WandaVision” has come to an end, and it gave us a major new superhero: Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), who will likely go by the name Spectrum. Monica didn’t have a whole lot to do in the “WandaVision” finale beyond showing off one of her powers — the ability to phase like Vision (Paul Bettany) does — but at the end of the episode, during the credits, we got a clue about what she’ll be doing next. And where she’ll be going. So in the mid-credits scene, the first of two bonus scenes at the end of the “WandaVision” finale, we catch up with Monica after everything has settled down in Westview. Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) is gone, Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) is stuck in her new life in the suburbs, and white Vision has gone who knows where — and Monica meets with a Skrull who has been disguised as human law enforcement. He’d like to meet with you.” “Where?” Monica asks. The Skrull responds by simply pointing upward. In case it’s not clear for you, the Skrull — one of the race of shapeshifting space aliens introduced in “Captain Marvel” — is referring to outer space with that finger point. And the person she mentioned — the old friend of Monica’s mom — is almost certainly Nick Fury. But while we don’t know why he’s up there, we do know that he’s up there. This was a fun and confusing bit of information we learned from the post-credits scene on “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” At the end of that film, we learn that the person we thought was Nick Fury was actually a Skrull named Talos. And Fury was in outer space on some kind of big space station. We don’t know what he was doing there, though. We’ll have to wait for some unknown future movie or Disney+ show to find out more about that. You might want to assume “Captain Marvel 2” will bring our follow-up, but that seems like a long time to sideline Samuel L Jackson. It’s possible, of course, that this Skrull was talking about somebody else who was friends with Monica’s mom. It probably wouldn’t be Captain Marvel, judging by the face Monica made early in “WandaVision” when her name popped up. It could be another Skrull, possible somebody we haven’t met. On Thursday’s “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert poked fun at the overwrought way news media is covering the conflict between the British royal family and Meghan Markle ahead of Markle’s Oprah interview — lots of hyperbolic descriptions like “feud escalates” — by imagining what it would be like if Queen Elizabeth actually insulted Markle publicly. The clip, which begins with a run down of recent coverage, repurposes footage of QEII addressing Parliament but with the audio replaced by a bunch of insults. “Lords and members of the House of Commons: I will now tear that Yankee Tramp, Meghan Markle, a new one,” the Queen begins. “Meghan Markle is so fat” — at which point the crowd yells “how fat is she?” — “Meghan Markle is so fat that when she sits around the house, she sits a-round the house. Citing unnamed sources and an email allegedly sent by a former employee of the couple, the Times report said Meghan “drove two personal assistants out of the household.” Meghan Markle denied the accusations through a spokesperson, calling them an “attack on her character.” On social media, fans denounced the accusations as racist. In a sign that studios might be feeling optimistic about COVID-19 vaccine distribution, Paramount has moved up the release of “A Quiet Place Part II” from September to Memorial Day weekend. The move was announced Thursday evening by director John Krasinski. “They always say good things come to those who wait. Well… I think we’ve waited long enough. A QUIET PLACE PART II MEMORIAL DAY,’ Krasinski tweeted. The sequel to the surprise 2018 horror hit was originally scheduled for release in March 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic that really kicked in that same month. Since then “A Quiet Place Part II” has changed release dates several times as the pandemic showed no signs of abating. In April 2020 it was slated for Sept. 4 of that year; Then last July Paramount moved it to April 23, 2021. And just 6 weeks ago, as COVID-19 cases were once again surging in the U.S., Paramount moved it to Sept. 26. Krasinski didn’t say in his announcement, but we’re guessing it has something to do with President Biden’s announcement earlier this week that the U.S. is on track to have enough doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to cover every adult in the United States by May. Chances are a lot of us will find ourselves willing to sit in a movie theater once we get that second shot. “A Quiet Place” made $340.9 million worldwide on just a $17 million budget for Paramount in 2018, with just under 45% of that total coming from international markets. The sequel brings back Emily Blunt along with Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe as they continue to fight for survival against monsters that have invaded Earth, with keeping completely silent the only way to avoid detection.
