These days, anyone with an Instagram or TikTok account has become somewhat of a wellness guru - as long as you’ve got a story to tell or experienced hardship growing up.

For local actress Hong Ling, she had some pearls of wisdom to cast on Instagram on 30 May.

But before you write her off, the 28-year-old might be on to something.

She is, after all, living the Singapore dream - a successful career, owning a condo and getting engaged before she is 30.

So what is this sagely advice?

Well, they’re simply three things you can and cannot choose.

In her post, she said that these were words “shared with me that got me reflecting”.

According to her reflection, the three things you can't choose are:

1. The condition of your birth

This is pretty self-explanatory but she said that you can’t choose not to be born or your parents or the financial circumstances you’re born into.

2. Your “essential make-up”

If you’re a little uncertain, the actress explained that you can’t choose your core personality, basic temperament, DNA, innate abilities, size or features.

Well, we’re not sure if she’s right on this because you can choose some of them but you get the picture.

3. Your departure

Not to get too morbid here, but Hong Ling basically meant that you can’t choose how you die.

But Hong Ling also said that there are three things you can choose to make life easier for you — your friends, occupation and hobbies.

She advised people to choose their occupation according to their strengths and pick hobbies that “rejuvenate and enrich your soul”.

Hong Ling wrote, “So, I wanted to choose wisely [in a way] that my younger self will be proud of, and my future self will be grateful for.”

The moral of the story?

Make wise choices, we guess, especially if it’ll help you achieve your milestones before 30.

And of course, live mindfully.
