A separation, more children and further responsibility: What 2019 might hold for the Royal Family

It’s been a busy start to the year for the Royal Family. The Queen remains in Sandringham until early February, as is tradition, but William, Kate, Harry and Meghan have resumed their duties and racked up 12 engagements between them in January alone.

This year’s set to be a busy one, with the impending arrival of Harry and Meghan’s first child, Prince Louis’ first birthday, Charlotte’s move to primary school, another royal wedding and potentially an overseas tour or two.

Royal experts have predicted what they think the future holds for the family this year, on the latest episode of Yahoo UK‘s ‘The Royal Box’.

Body language expert Judi James thinks Harry and Meghan will become an A-list power couple after their first child arrives.

She adds: “I think we might see them looking at having another child quite quickly and then going out and sorting the entire world out.”

PR guru Nick Ede says it’s the year that Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall need to step up.

“It’s time to do it and it’s time for her to do it as well because she’s still got a bit of work to do to enter our hearts in a warm way so I think that’s a big priority for the Royal Family.”

In a survey by YouGov UK last year, Camilla was the 10th most popular royal – behind Prince Harry, the Queen, Prince William, Kate, Prince Philip, Meghan, her husband Charles, Princess Anne and Zara Tindall.

Ede adds that Meghan and Harry’s new Deputy Communications Secretary, Christian Jones, will help to shake things up from a PR point of view, after a slew of negative press over the past couple of months.

Royal correspondent Victoria Murphy thinks we’re going to see more of a transition, with the Queen gradually handing over more things to the younger royals.

The Queen has already passed on several of her patronages, with the Duchess of Sussex gaining two of those – the National Theatre and the Association of the Commonwealth Universities.

She also thinks that the Cambridges and Sussexes will carve out their own paths.

She says: “I think we’re going to see the separation of Harry and Meghan, and William and Kate, I think we’re going to see more distinct things from those two couples as two separate entities.

“Both in terms of where they live obviously because we know Harry and Meghan are going to Windsor, but also in terms of them setting up for the future.”

Last year it was announced that Harry and Meghan would be moving to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor ahead of the birth of their baby. There were also reports that William and Harry are planning to “split” Kensington Palace into two courts for their growing families.
