1030 Breakfast Shop officially opened at Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre in mid-Jan. Eeling, its founder, was inspired by the breakfast dishes she tried in Taiwan, and opened the stall in hopes of bringing that experience to Singaporeans. The 30 in the name comes from her birthday, 30 Jan, which she considers a lucky number, and this is her first hawker stall.

The Signature Toast (S$6.50) is an interesting combination of pork chop, cheese, egg, luncheon meat and peanut butter. Peanut butter with meat and cheese isn’t a common combination, but reviews have found it palatable. Those who have tried it have commented on the toasty yet fluffy bread and juicy fresh pork chop, which mesh well with the nuttiness.

Furthermore, 1030 Breakfast Shop’s prices range from S$2 to S$6.50, making it quite affordable. For just S$2, one can buy the Kaya Butter Toast, Black Sesame Toast or Chocolate Toast. They’re simple, yet rather well-loved among Singaporeans of all ages (especially the Kaya Butter a nice nod to the taste of home).

S$2 can also get you a hearty bowl of Mince Pork Millet or Braised Pork Rice in light portions.

Ham Cheese Egg Omelette (S$5) is another one of their recommended items. The rolled omelette encases ham and a slice of cheese – a classic pairing. A more filling option would be the Hashbrown Bacon Egg Omelette (S$6), which also contains crispy hashbrowns and bacon.

With any purchase of a Mince Pork Millet or Braised Pork Rice, one can choose to top up S$1 for a Value Set Meal. An Egg Omelette or Toast can then be added to complete the set. Eeling’s reasoning behind this is to allow people to sample multiple dishes without a huge portion that they can’t finish.

To those missing the taste of Taiwan, perhaps it’s time to bookmark 1030 Breakfast Shop for your next Chinatown trip!
