We’ve all heard the saying, “Beauty is only skin deep,” but do you really think that is true? If anything I think it is exactly opposite – beauty starts from within and radiates out through our entire soul, skin included!
In today’s society of social media it’s all too easy to fall into the trap of constant comparison, flaw-finding, and beating yourself up because you aren’t “good enough.” (Feel free to replace “good” with skinny, smart, rich, happy, beautiful, popular, etc.) Our ideas of what is beautiful have become defined by what we see in our Instagram feed instead of by what we feel in our hearts.
Getting the “perfect” selfie by taking 100 shots until our thigh gap looks good does not make us feel beautiful. Comparing ourselves to photoshopped models does not make us feel beautiful. Not eating so we can look good in our bikini does not make us feel beautiful.
It just makes us feel inadequate — never good enough, never worthy, and never truly loved.
So what do we do?
One place to start is with the words that we speak. Our words can be weapons that destroy us or they can be tools that rebuild our love and belief that, yes, we are beautiful. We are beautiful no matter our shape. We are beautiful first thing in the morning with no makeup. We are beautiful moms, beautiful sisters, beautiful lovers.
We are beautiful.
Can’t find the words right now? Here are some inspirational quotes to get you started.
1. You are not perfect…and that makes you beautiful.
“You are imperfect, permanently and inevitably flawed. And you are beautiful.” ―Amy Bloom
2. The real you is the most beautiful you.
“There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty.” ―Steve Maraboli
3. Being alive is one of the most beautiful things of all.
“Choose this life. Choose this body. Say yes to all of it. Say yes to the beauty and the good and the ugly and the difficult. Choose what you have, what you are. Choose this moment. Choose to love and remember. You are full. You are alive.” ―Kimber Simpkins
4. The more you love yourself, the more beauty you will see in yourself.
“Things are beautiful if you love them. “ ―Jean Anouilh
5. Creating beauty for others will create beauty for yourself.
“There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.” ―Mandy Hale
6. We are as beautiful as our thoughts. Make those thoughts count!
“What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful.” ―Scott Westerfeld
7. The deepest part of your beauty is something that can only be felt.
"The best part of beauty is that which no picture can express.” ―P.C. Cast
8. See yourself the way other people see you and you will be amazed by how beautiful you are.
"She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines. She was beautiful, for the way she thought. She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved…She was beautiful, deep down to her soul.” ―F. Scott Fitzgerald
9. We will never find our own beauty unless we find it within ourselves.
"Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not." ―Ralph Waldo Emerson
10. Smiling works.
I’ve never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful. ―Unknown
11. Start looking deep for other people’s beauty and you will start to see it in yourself too.
"How beautiful would it be if we could just see souls instead of bodies? To see love and compassion instead of curves.” ―Karen Quan
12. Be unapologetically you.
"Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses, cuz we were born this way bitch!” ―Lady Gaga
13. What are you really afraid of? You were born for greatness.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? " ―Marianne Williamson
14. It’s not complicated.
People are like Oreos. The good stuff is inside. ―Unknown
