If you think a world cruise is expensive, well, you're not entirely wrong. But compare the price of a world cruise to the average rent in Manhattan, and you might realize a world cruise is within your reach. That's because spending four months on Holland America's upcoming world cruise is actually cheaper than living in Manhattan for four months. (We're pretty sure the takeaway here is that Manhattan is just too stupidly expensive, but we digress.)

According to a recent Douglas Elliman report, the average rent in Manhattan is an astonishing $5,119 per month or approximately $168 per day. And the lowest daily rate of the Holland America world cruise is about $180 per day.

Now, I'm sure you've noticed that the cruise is slightly more expensive, but here's the thing: that daily rate includes your accommodation, meals (including 24-hour room service), entertainment and activities, daily housekeeping, and "utilities." Rent in Manhattan only covers accommodations. So factor in utilities, a grocery budget, and a few fun activities, and you see where we're going here.

Of course, your cabin on the ship, Holland America's Zuiderdam, might be a touch smaller than an apartment — although not necessarily by much — but you also have an entire ship at your fingertips. You know, pools, pickleball courts, a gym, you name it.

Plus, you'll be traveling the world. The itinerary begins in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after which you'll sail south through the Caribbean and eventually through the Panama Canal. Next, you'll spend some time on the west coast of South America before making for Easter Island, French Polynesia, and several island nations of the South Pacific.

The adventure continues to Australia and Southeast Asia, followed by numerous Indian Ocean island nations. Then you'll round the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa on your way up to the Mediterranean. And finally, you'll make the transatlantic journey back to Fort Lauderdale. Manhattan isn't sounding so exciting now, is it?

Holland America's next world cruise departs on Jan. 3, 2025, and you'll disembark on May 9, 2025. Ready to break your lease and start the new year on the high seas? Book now at hollandamerica.com.
