Prime Video has a certified hit on their hands with Reacher. Based on Lee Child's popular book series, the show follows a former military policeman who sustains his life as a nomad by solving mysteries wherever he goes. It's both action-packed and filled with intrigue, the perfect combination to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Now that the show is done with its second season (with a third currently filming), Reacher fans will likely binge through the available episodes, then have to deal with the inevitable pause between seasons. To fill the rest of your time, you'll have to branch out and find more shows to fill the Reacher void.
So what makes a good Reacher alternative? Well, the show incorporates elements of detective shows and action thrillers, which are the foundations of popular television. If there's a good mystery or heart-racing drama, viewers will likely watch. It's the successful recipe that made shows like 24, Justified, and Bosch so successful, and it's how Reacher has found instant success on Prime Video.
Once you finish watching Reacher Season 2–either watching weekly or binging once all the episodes are out–there's a whole world of great television out there ready to keep you busy until Season 3 hits streaming services sometime in the future. And who knows, you may even find a new ongoing show to stay on top of, in addition to Reacher of course.
Here are a number of shows we recommend that are similar to Reacher.
Sneaky Pete (2015-2018)
This crime drama lasted for 3 seasons before an abrupt cancellation. Sneaky Pete follows a man whose name is not actually Pete, but a conman who leaves prison and decides to take on the name and life of his cellmate instead, which leads him to working with Pete's bounty-hunting family.
Timothy Olyphant stars as Raylan Givens, a deputy U.S. Marshal who instills the law in Lexington, Kentucky. The show lasted for six seasons and received critical acclaim. It even had a short limited series reboot in 2023.
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (2018-2023)
For another action-packed book adaptation, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is the newest spin on a character once played by Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, and Harrison Ford. John Krasinki stars in this four season political thriller about a CIA analyst who's pulled from his desk job and recruited for missions.
For viewers who love Reacher's detective format and want more from the genre, check out Bosch. The Prime Video show follows LAPD detective Harry Bosch and is loosely based on Michael Connelly's novels.
This high-stakes action show lasted for nine seasons, and even had a television film. Kiefer Sutherland stars as Jack Bauer, a counter-terrorist federal agent. Each season takes place in real-time, over 24 hours, and details Bauer's attempts to stop various terrorist attacks and threats to his colleagues's lives.
This major Showtime hit follows CIA officer Carrie Mathison and a Marine Corps scout sniper who enter a cat and mouse game when Mathison becomes convinced he's preparing a terrorist attack. The show went on for 8 seasons and won multiple awards.
Idris Elba stars as a conflicted detective who becomes entangled with a serial killer in this BBC drama. As he works to solve various cases, Luther relies upon the help of Alice Morgan, a serial killer who holds a growing fascination with him.
Slow Horses (2022-Present)
Gary Oldman stars as the grouchy and reluctant leader of a group of failed government agents who discover a conspiracy within MI6 and set out to expose it.
If you want more of a neo-Western vibe, sort of how Reacher feels, check out Longmire. It follows a sheriff in Wyoming who sets out to investigate various crimes in his jurisdiction.
For a bit more action and intrigue, check out the thriller Nikita, a short-lived CW show starring Maggie Q as an assassin who escapes the clutches of the organization that trained her. After hiding for three years, she returns to take them down.
The Night Agent (2023–Present)
This 2023 Netflix series became an unexpected hit. It follows an FBI agent who becomes entrenched in a government conspiracy and risks everything to find a mole. The show has already been renewed for a second season.
